What We Do

We keep ourselves busy at Honiton Band, with a calendar of rehearsals and events throughout the year.

Rehearsals

Like many brass bands, you can expect to hear us most at summer fêtes and carolling at Christmas, but we’re busy rehearsing, come rain or shine, every week. Our Wednesday evening rehearsals, which take place between 7:30pm and 9:30pm, see us developing our repetoire and distinctive ensemble sound by playing everything from Floral Dance to Taylor Swift. While the band doesn’t have its own bandroom, we have good working relationships with several local organisations, and have rehearsed at locations around the town across the years. At present, we rehearse in the Honiton Family Church, on the High Street.

Engagements

Honiton Band takes part in a variety of external engagements throughout the year, from fairs and fetes to concerts and church services. For more information, see our calendar page.

We’re particularly lucky to be a fixture in the many towns and villages that are in close proximity to Honiton, which sees us performing annually at the Honiton Show and other major events. We’ve also played further afield, including undertaking tours to our twin towns in France and Germany, and have a programme of events that keeps us busy throughout the year.

We are proud of our status as a ‘non-contesting’ band, meaning that you won’t find us on the competitive ‘ladder’ of brass bands in the UK. Many of our players do compete as part of other bands, and there is considerable contesting experience within the band, but at Honiton, we prefer to work towards our own goals, with concerts and events organised regularly throughout the year.
