Honiton Band has its own dedicated Training Band, run by one of the band’s horn players, Gill Muggeridge.
The Training Band rehearses immediately before the senior band, at 6:30pm on Wednesdays in Honiton Family Church; it is designed for players new to the world of brass music (or returning after a break). The Training Band and provides a supportive environment to learn fundamental musical concepts and the basics of ensemble playing. Many players eventually progress from the Training Band into the senior band, although there is no requirement to do so; individual support and guidance is provided by the band’s solo euphonium player, Richard Brain, and our repiano cornet player, Roger Sleeman.
Thanks to its close relationship with the senior band, the Training Band also performs at a number of events throughout the year, both as a prelude to the senior band and in its own right.
